“Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny” was not a huge box office hit, in fact, it bombed catastrophically. The movie cost $20 million to make and only earned $14 million at the box office. However, the film holds a special place in the hearts of rock and metal fans alike who saved the movie from being a total disaster by earning it over $10 million in DVD sales.
Even though no one might have guessed the film would get a sequel, the charismatic actor and musician Jack Black revealed plans for a sequel which is supposed to be hitting the screens in October. Due to the fact that the film bombed in the box office, it’s safe to assume that the movie would be direct to DVD or made available for streaming online. Black revealed: “I don’t know where you’ll be able to see it, but we have decided that it’s happening and it’s coming out.”
The movie follows a fictional retelling of how Black and his bandmate Kyle Gass met and formed Tenacious D, a comedy rock band with three albums under their belt. The movie also featured Meat Loaf, Dave Grohl and the late Ronnie James Dio as vocalists, as well as Ben Stiller, John C. Reilly, Paul F. Tompkins.
